GSK is proud to fund the conference attendance and accommodation for 15x Nigerian General Practitioners that are preferably Senior Medical Officers, Principal Medical Officers or Chief Medical Officers, to the 40th Annual General Meeting /International Scientific Conference of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN). The conference will be held in Lokoja, Kogi State from 11 - 14 April 2018. 

The theme for the conference is "Physician, Heal Thyself".

The sub-themes are: 

  • Early detection of cancer in family practice
  • Doctors' welfare and safe landing after retirement
  • Group practice amid Nigerian doctors - why so difficult?
  • The role of the family physician in the early detection of cancers
  • Diagnosis and management of dental caries

Qualifying Criteria

Please note that Specialists or Consultants are excluded from applying for this scholarship. 

A successful applicant needs to be a Nigerian General Practitioner that:

  • Has atleast a first degree in Medicine OR
  • A minimum of 5 years post-graduation experience as a General Practitioner  – preferably as Senior Medical Officer, Principal Medical Officer or Chief Medical Officer in a recognized hospital facility AND
  • Can show scientific interest in the event applied for, or can show benefits to their patients OR
  • Is an oral or abstract presenter at the congress or have otherwise actively participated in original research or scientific work that is being presented OR
  • Can share learning to a larger community after the congress because he/she is in a teaching environment or are part of a larger network of Healthcare Professionals anticipating information or feedback from the event.

Post Event Knowledge Transfer

  • CPD/CME Workshop

    Initiate knowledge transfer by presenting information that you acquired while attending the conference at a CPD/CME Workshop. You will be required to obtain an attendance register signed by all attendees and upload it to the MPC system to serve as evidence of knowledge transfer.

  • Publish in a Medical Journal

    Initiate knowledge transfer by writing an article that is published in a medical journal. The subject matter of the article should be based on information that you obtained while attending the conference. You will be required to upload a copy of the article to the MPC system to serve as evidence of knowledge transfer.

  • Post in the MPC Knowledge Share Database

    Initiate knowledge transfer by writing an article and post it on the MPC Knowledge Share database for access by registered users to serve as evidence of knowledge transfer. The subject matter of the article should be based on information that you obtained while attending the conference.

Accommodation Scholarship Available

Accommodation will be booked in a 4-star hotel as close to the conference venue as possible, and will include breakfast. Lunch will be provided by the conference but dinner will be for the delegates' own cost and arrangement.

The award nite/dinner taking place on Saturday 14 April, at the conference, is included in the sponsorship.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Accommodation

    1. In all cases, a 4 star hotel or guesthouse equivalent will be used.

    2. With regards to official travel, MPC will only cover room rates and will not refund the following personal costs, including but not limited to:

      • Telephone costs

      • Mini bar / Alcoholic beverages

      • Entertainment

      • Laundry

  2. Post Event Knowledge Transfer

    Successful applicants are expected to give back to their medical community by sharing the information they obtained while attending the conference. Evidence of Post Event Knowledge Transfer needs to be supplied to MPC within 6 months of attendance of the conference. Please refer to the "Post Event Knowledge Transfer" section for approved Knowledge Transfer methods.

  3. Event Specific Terms and Conditions

    Scholarship includes main conference registration fees and accommodation, including breakfast. Return flights, airport and venue transfers are NOT part of the scholarship and are for the delegates own arrangement and costs. 

    No payments, whether in cash or cash equivalents, will be made to a successful applicant – all scholarship related costs will be paid directly to the service provider by MPC.

    No payments may be made by GSK to successful applicants or service providers under Independent Medical Educations' terms and conditions either.

    Please note that GSK are not made aware of which applicants received conference scholarships, due to stringent compliance regulations – please do not make direct contact with GSK regarding any aspect of the scholarship.

    The scholarship does not include the cost of acquiring a Passport or Visa. All costs related to Passports and Visas are for the cost of the applicant.
