Introduction

Ultrasound plays a crucial part in the clinical diagnosis. Ultrasound helps to rapidly confirm a suspected pathology as well as helping to diagnose patient’s symptoms. This course is designed to educate delegates Basic Level 1 Abdominal and Pelvic scanning, so that they feel comfortable and competent. By confirming a certain suspected pathology, aids in the management and treatment of patients.


Course Content

After completing this course participants will be able to:

  • Use and choose the most appropriate ultrasound equipment
  • Correct set up of the ultrasound equipment
  • Understand the criteria for quality
  • Understand the capabilities and limitations of ultrasound
  • Describe the patient preparation and position
  • Correctly orientate the ultrasound image
  • Recognise the sectional ultrasound anatomy in the transverse and longitudinal planes
  • Utilise Basic level 1 Abdominal & Pelvic ultrasound protocol
  • Recognise normal anatomy and pathology applicable to basic level 1 abdominal and pelvic ultrasound

Course Design

Online course content followed by a 1-day hands-on facilitated workshop.


Who Should Enroll

This course is appropriate for radiologists, sonographers, radiographers, and general practitioners. Delegates should have a medical qualification and have access to an ultrasound scanner to improve upon their ultrasound skills.


Accreditation

Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Healthcare Professionals for 30 CEU’s on Level 2


Certification

To qualify for the certificate of completion, delegates have to complete and pass the online course content as well as successfully complete the hands-on assessment process.
