Introduction

The Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) Management Short Courses are entry level management programmes that successfully develop the skills of young potential managers, supervisors, and team leaders.


Course Highlights

Students that enroll on these programmes are exposed to complex business environments and are challenged to think differently through self-assessment and reflection. Through examining a range of management concepts, students discover winning techniques that improve their ability to manage in an ever changing world. The most relevant management subjects have been weaved together to form a solid educational foundation for the emerging manager.

FPD's approach is to combine excellent theory and personal experience which results in a management programmes that are inspiring and practical.

Course Design

The Short Courses are offered using participatory methods and building on the shared knowledge of the participants. The course is skills-based and allows participants the opportunity to find solutions to problems they may identify as managers. The FPD Management Short Courses incorporate lecture videos and the learning material is provided in downloadable PDF format to allow students to study the material off-line and at a time and location convenient to them.

These components have been designed to ensure:

  • acquisition of knowledge
  • application of such knowledge in a simulated learning opportunity
  • the development of a frame of reference on the subject
  • assimilation of skills

Who Should Enroll

FPD Management Short Courses are targeted at registered medical students.


Accreditation

These courses are accredited by The Foundation for Professional Development. The Foundation for Professional Development (registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a Private Higher Education Institution (PHEI) in terms of Section 54(1)(c) of the Act and Regulation 16(4)(a)). Please note that this course is not accredited for CPD as it is aimed at medical students.


Certification

Medical Students will receive a Management Short Course completion certificate for each Short Course completed. To complete a Short Course, a student is required to complete the Multiple Choice Questionnaire (MCQ) at the end of each Short Course and pass with an average of 70%.

Recognition of Management Short Course Credits when applying for a Higher Certificate in Management

Students do not automatically qualify for a Higher Certificate in Management (HCM) qualification by completing the Management Short Courses but may formally enroll for the course with FPD for a discounted rate of R5,800.00 (including VAT). The Higher Certificate in Management is a registered and accredited South African qualification on the NQF Level 5 (120 credits). Successful delegates will receive a Higher Certificate in Management for this course if they successfully completed the assessment process, after course enrollment. Students that have already completed FPD Management Short Courses will receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Credits per Short Course, which will be allocated towards the HCM qualification.


Assessment

Participants will be assessed by means of a multiple choice questionnaire for each of the short courses. If they register for the formally registered Higher Certificate in Management, an additional study guide document with 4 summative assessment assignments will be made available to the students.


Time

FPD Management Short Courses range between 10 to 25 hours to complete.


Course Fee

This course is only accessible through scholarships.

Unlimited scholarships available for healthcare students registered with the HPCSA only.
