Optimizing outpatient management of patients with COVID-19

Introduction

Since the first reported cases of SARS-CoV-2 the pandemic has evolved with various variants of concern arising. Most patients present with mild to moderate symptoms that make them eligible for management at home. Management of patients at home should still remain comprehensive and this short course will equip members of the healthcare team with practical tips to ensure that patients receive the best possible care and that patients that complicate are recognized early and management escalated appropriately. This course will also discuss long COVID and how the healthcare team at various levels of care can ensure that patient treatment is optimized.

Learning Outcomes

On achieving this course, a learner will be able to:

Recognize patients that are eligible for home-based management of COVID-19
Discuss the appropriate monitoring of patients with COVID-19 at home
Understand the implementation of palliative care at home in the context of COVID-19
Recognize patients with LONG COVID and utilize the correct level of care ensuring that patients are treated comprehensively

Course Design

The is an eLearning course, consisting of 2 modules and various multiple-choice assessments. Each section is approximately 40 minutes which makes it palatable to aid busy healthcare professionals with successful completion of the course content on their own time

Time

The minimum period for completion is 3 months from date of registration.

It will take approximately 60 minutes to work through each section as well as complete the assessment requirements.

Assessment

Participants are assessed on the self-study component of the course through means of a multiple-choice questionnaire for which a pass mark of 70% is required.

Certification

After successful completion of the course, you will be awarded with a certificate of completion form the Foundation for Professional Development.

To qualify for the CPD Certification, a pass rate of 70% is required, after successful completion your CPD certificate will be made available on the MPC CPD Manager.

Accreditation

Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Health Care Professionals for 5 CEU’s on Level 2
