Introduction

The clinical spectrum of COVID-19 infection is vast ranging from asymptomatic patients to critically ill patients. As the pandemic has evolved the management of patients with COVID-19 has also changed. 3-Years into the pandemic it remains imperative that clinicians stay up to date with the latest developments and that in hospital care skills are retained.

This short course will equip clinicians with the necessary tools to appropriately manage patients at various points on the spectrum of presentations from initial management to management of stable patients at home and also critically ill patients in hospital. We will also touch on the appropriate management of patients with long COVID at different levels of care.

Learning Outcomes

On achieving this course, a learner will be able to:

  1. Recognize patients with potential COVID-19 and implement an initial management approach
  2. Differentiate between a stable and unstable COVID-19 patients and manage appropriately
  3. Discuss the appropriate management of unstable COVID-19 patients and escalate treatment options in accordance with the clinical presentation
  4. Recognize patients with LONG COVID and utilize the correct level of care ensuring that patients are treated comprehensively

Course Design

The is an eLearning course, consisting of 4 modules and various multiple-choice assessments. Each section is approximately 40 minutes that are topical and palatable to aid clinicians with successful completion of the course content on their own time


Time

The minimum period for completion is 3 months from date of registration.

It will take approximately 60 minutes to work through each section as well as complete the assessment requirements.

  1. Recognition of COVID-19: Initial Emergency Department (ED) management
  2. Management of the stable COVID-19 patient: Home care guideline
  3. Management of the unstable patient with COVID-19
  4. LONG COVID-19 and its’ effects

Assessment

Participants are assessed on the self-study component of the course through means of a multiple-choice questionnaire for which a pass mark of 70% is required.


Certification

After successful completion of the course, you will be awarded with a certificate of completion form the Foundation for Professional Development.

To qualify for the CPD Certification, a pass rate of 70% is required, after successful completion your CPD certificate will be made available on the MPC CPD Manager.


Accreditation

Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for Health Care Professionals for 6 CEU’s on Level 2
