Course Description

Our panel of experts explore and describe effective and evidence-based methods of assessment, diagnosis and management of mental health conditions in primary healthcare.

Introduction

In collaboration with general practitioners, the six most common groups of mental health disorders found in primary care were identified, namely Depressive Disorders, Bipolar and Related Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Substance related and Addictive Disorders, Schizophrenia Spectrum and other Psychotic Disorders and Neurocognitive Disorders.

These 6 groups of mental health disorders are succinctly discussed in sessions of 1 hour each by our panel consisting of 2 psychiatrists and 2 psychologists. Topics covered include different assessment and treatment strategies, including pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. This course also aims to illustrate the effective use of a multi-disciplinary team.

This introductory course is the first in a series of workshops on mental health in primary care.
