The Leave No Child Behind virtual conference 2020, given the impact of the Covid 19 global pandemic, will focus on the development of an Emergency Action Plan. The conference will connect the ‘Charter: Leave No African Child Behind’, the epoch-making outcome of the 11th conference, with the challenges related to the child’s right to protection and development of resilience with solutions and new opportunities for access to finance, inclusivity through circles of care and building a more robust African society. The Leave No African Child Behind 2020 conference will provide a unique opportunity to connect Africa’s child protection leaders with each other. It will also connect leaders with development and investment agencies, the private sector, and technical experts to interact, share knowledge and start new partnerships in order to ensure rapid action on African Child Protection. It will provide a space for the assessment and demonstration of tangible, innovative and pioneering solutions and tools designed to promote child protection within the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic. This conference showcases scalable child protection innovation relevant to Africa.
Children’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual health is of paramount importance to the future of Africa. The Covid 19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenging realities of our children and the impact of gender-based violence against children and others in the home, adding further layers of distress and trauma. Adults and communities which may have been able to provide some comfort or reassurance to vulnerable children in the past, are themselves now also stressed on multiple levels. There is an urgent need for accelerated and strategic action from government, non-government organisations, civil society, and communities. The African Child Trauma conference series provides a unique and accessible platform for child protection stakeholders to connect with investors, scientists, technical experts, development partners, government organisations and civil society to share and consolidate their vision, building consensus and forging new and innovative partnerships to accelerate change in the landscape of child protection in Africa.
Medical professionals, psychologists, counsellors, social workers, teachers, faith-based leaders and any person working with children and their families
The African Child Trauma Conference is the only conference of its kind in Africa that is trans-disciplinary and regional. It is the 11th year that the conference is held, and for the first time online. It addresses Child Mental Health issues in the Covid context, with a combination of clinical work and current research.
