Exposure to different airborne pathogens has resulted in the emergence of epidemics/pandemics of respiratory infections. This airborne transmission becomes even more prevalent in healthcare settings because of overburdened health facilities and the presence of immunosuppressed patients. Airborne infection control measures include a three-pronged approach, namely administrative control, environmental control, and personal respiratory protection measures.
Recently the WHO also identified various challenges and weaknesses with respect to infection prevention control practices on airborne infections in South Africa with a general lack of insight into the basic principles.
FPD with CSIR developed a basic airborne infection control course addressing the challenges of airborne infection.
This course has been developed in partnership with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Infection control personnel, occupational health nurse, occupational health and safety personnel facility maintenance personnel, environmental health practitioners; TB coordinators, quality assurance coordinators, facility, district and provincial managers, clinicians working in TB and HIV&AIDS programmes, architects, engineers and people working for infrastructure departments.
This is an online course. Participants have 3 months to complete the assessment process from date of registration.
After completing this course, the participants should be able to:
Participants are assessed on the self-study component of the course through means of a multiple-choice questionnaire. These will be submitted to the Foundation for Professional Development for assessment.
Accredited according to the HPCSA’s Medical and Dental Board Guidelines for 16 Clinical and 1 Ethical CEU’s on Level 2.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion for this short course once successfully completing the assessment component.
