Knowledge Share Database

Back

Medical Practice Consulting is proud to have developed and to present one of the first electronic data sharing tools of its kind in South Africa.

Knowledge Share has been developed due to the demand from registered healthcare professionals for a safe professional environment, which is conducive to the transfer of information. The Knowledge Share tool allows members to voice their opinions, to obtain and share knowledge and to discuss industry related trends and the advancement of technology in the South African healthcare industry.

The tool allows all registered healthcare professionals to transfer knowledge in a safe environment, because individuals cannot register without an HPCSA registration number. Members of the public will thus not be able to gain access to the website and make assumptions based on the opinions of healthcare professionals.

Members can share and obtain knowledge from all fellow members regardless of their profession or speciality, at the touch of a button. The demand for such a feature has increased drastically and is evidenced by the use of social websites by healthcare professionals when opinions surrounding complex matters are sought after. This is however not a safe environment as public sites are forever in the public eye and professionals run the risk of incurring personal liability.

Unlike social sites, which replace comments by users on a regular basis, the Medical Practice Consulting-designed database records all information that has been shared and requested for later reference.

The Knowledge Share tool boasts the following features

  1. A five filter search engine

With the use of a five filter search engine, it is possible for all members to share and search for knowledge between and within professions. Searches can be compiledbased on the following criteria:

    • Per topic name,
    • Per publisher,
    • Per publish date,
    • Per ICD10 code,
    • Per related key phrase;
  2. Multimedia

The use of multimedia as a base for learning has been emphasised through the advancements in technology during the last decade, which is why Knowledge Share allows users to attach images as well as videos to posts. This is aimed at assisting them in sharing knowledge as well as obtaining the opinions from other healthcare professionals.

The feature also allows for direct streaming of videos from YouTube© which allows members to comment on live operations, advancements in medical technology, as well as the opinions of foreign healthcare professionals in a safe environment. Comments posted on media of any sort will only be viewable by HPCSA members within www.mpconsulting.co.za, had it been shared with them based on their profession or speciality by the creator of the post or comment.

  3. View ability

The view ability of shared knowledge is limited by the sharing member, as he/she may choose to only share to his/her own profession or to all professions.

  4. Hardware

Medical Practice Consulting has invested in powerful servers to ensure that the Knowledge Share feature can sustain vast amounts of post and media. All data is stored on the servers for later reference andcan be accessed at any time.
